The average rate charged for Eng Fin is 0.11 EUR and Fin to Eng 0.14 EUR. In my experience, the word count from Finnish to english is about 40-50% more words. Anybody charging for this?

English is not my target language; I translate from German and English to Finnish and from Finnish to German.
Let's take my last EN>FI translation. The English text had 6887 words, the Finnish one 4304 - a huge difference. I use your figures: If you charge 0.11 euro per English word you have to take 0.176 (!) euro per Finnish word to get the same price. If you charge 0.14 euro per Finnish word, you earn 155.15 (!) euro less. The relation is 1.6, it means English word x.x euro multiplied wi

The difference between Finnish and German is not that huge. It is 1.4, and I use this factor when calculating the price per Finnish word (0.11 euro per German word = 0.154 per Finnish word).
In English and German every single article and preposition is a word, but there is no word counting tool counting the Finnish endings and suffixes.
In Germany I still can charge per target text line and "hide" the big difference in word counting. A Finnish text is shorter than a German one, but the difference is not that big as in word counting.

50% is a quite reliable figure as I have been doing this language pair now for quite some time. So yes, your figures are about right. Yet, it would seem few translators actually follow this and translation agencies do not acknowledge this. I sometimes get around this by charging Fin to Eng on target word...

Yes, maybe this would work as well, can see that. Or, by characters including blanks...
