Hi,
I thought I had seen this problem mentioned in the forum before, but I can't find it, so please indulge me.
Everything was working just fine yesterday as I started a new project. I was happily adding new terms to my termbase as I went, because there were a lot of unique terms in this document.
Now this morning the term recognition window in Studio keeps coming up with no hits. But I know it's connected--if I try to add terms it will take them.

I can't find anything in my hitlist settings that seems odd.
Any ideas?
Patrick

Sorry, the link brings up a different page than I tried to show you. It is the page entitled, "Term recognition may stop working in SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP2 after running SDL Trados Translator's Workbench".

If you can find this page, there is a "LaunchStudio.zip" file as an attachment at the side. If you have been running Translator's Workbench and then you do not get term recognition in Studio, you have to close Studio and then open it, instead, with the file of this name, to be found on the SDL web site.

Starting with the above link, you have to type "term recognition" in the box, go to the third page of the results and it should be the fifth link down from the top that you have to click.

The cause is probably right, but the solution didn't work Apr 22, 2010

Astrid,
Thanks so much for leading me to the knowledge base article. Most of the symptoms seem to fit--I opened up WB last night for the first time just to see what it looked like--and it was only after that that Term Recognition failed.
Contrary to the article, the Termbase Search function does not work either.
Most importantly, the solution seemed to have no effect. I'll try restarting the PC and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Patrick

Still no.... Apr 22, 2010

Thanks again Astrid, but the solution doesn't seem to work, though the cause seems to be same. I didn't see any way to follow up with feedback on the knowledge base article. Any ideas on how best to approach the manufacturer? (Sorry, I'm really, really new at this.)
Patrick

Did you download the mentioned ZIP file? Apr 22, 2010

Talisma article number 3093
Unzip the file and double click the enclosed LaunchStudio.bat file.
This will bring the term recognition back again.
And in Studio please make sure, you are viewing the Term recognition window and not the Termbase search window (the same location on Studio window).

Yes I did Apr 22, 2010

Thanks Jerzy, but yes, I extracted the file, double clicked it and watched DOS run its routine and start up Studio...with the same result.
Also, I made sure I wasn't confusing the recognition and search windows--clever of you to think of that, but alas that wasn't the answer.
Well, I'll have access to my laptop in an hour, and I can try it out there--I'm still running SP1 on that machine, and didn't have the problem last time I checked. So until this situation gets straightened out..

Maybe a dumb question... Apr 22, 2010

Are you sure you have ANY termbases configured in your project?
Could you also please check, if Multiterm as such is working properly?
Would you also please check, which exact versions of Java do you have on your PC?

No, not a dumb question, but... Apr 22, 2010

Yes, I have a termbase running, and I've tried different ones with the same result. And MultiTerm must be running, because I'm able to add terms as I go. It accepts them, but won't display them in the recognition window. Or search for them.
Java version is 1.6.0_20.
It's a brand new Windows 7 machine as well. Studio ran just fine up till now on it.

Java is wrong Apr 22, 2010

You MUST have Java 1.6.14 for Studio and 1.5.12 or 1.5.10 for Suite 2007.
I am quite sure this may be very well the cause.
Please install JRE 1.6.14 - you'll find it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\Installers\SDLTradosStudio2009SP2\modules\jre-6u14-windows-i586.exe
This path is from Vista 64, but should be very similar in Win7.

Here a screenshot of a corresponding setting in German:

Term Recognition vs. Termbank search Apr 22, 2010

This may seem to you to be a silly idea,
but in fact - if I was working intensively - I occasionally did not recognize, that the Term Recognition section had changed to display Terminology search instead! And I wondered, where all the recognized terms were gone... as I did no search. The reason of the change was obviously, that I accidentially hit any shortcut.
Thus the question: are you sure, you're looking at the Term Recognition and not at the Termbase Search?

I tried but... Apr 22, 2010

Hi Jerzy,
I followed your instructions, but the results did not change. I could well have done something wrong--the Java version tester at http://www.javatester.org/version.html tells me I still have the same version as I told you before--but I'm just going to hang it up for the day and hope for clarity tomorrow.
Thanks,
Patrick

Sorry to hear that Apr 22, 2010

I must admit, that now I do not have any additional ideas.
To my knowledge term recognition should work now.
If it doesn't I can't help anymore, unfortunately.
The only hope now is Trados support or other colleagues, who might have better knowledge of this problem than me.

System restore Apr 23, 2010

It appears I found a solution...restoring the system to just before I installed 2007, thereby undoing the registry changes that took place when I opened it. Term Recognition works again, for now.
Thanks for the advice received. I hope the fix holds.

Studio 2009 = Rubbish Apr 23, 2010

It's amazing that a simple function as this one leads us to spend valuable time searching for solutions... We are translators, not software developers! SDL is joking, taking our money twice, when we upgrade our CAT tools and after that, as we must spend lots of time to solve ridiculous problems or even finding a solution to enlarge fonts to work better...
I have this same problem now, and SDL solution is amazingly ultrageous: so I have to apply this bat file everytime I work on WorkBench?

Term Recognition fixed, Open Document gone Apr 23, 2010

Well, the bat file worked for me alright, but now Open Document button doesn't work. Registering issue should be long fixed as it has been the same with hmm T 6.5 and some older version.
