Hi there,
I hope someone can help me out on this one.
I already looked in the database available online for Catalyst, and there is a troubleshooting for a problem that is similar to mine.
The problem are two error messages (that eventually won't let me import webpages or do anything whatsoever with Catalyst):
First I get a message
failed to create edit toolbar
When I try to create a project I get:

In the webpage the solution that is given is for Catalyst 5 and 6. Also the environment I use is Windows Vista, so no option there to Run a program. My guess was that I would have to edit the registry...with the files that are listed in the webpage, and it didn't help.
Does anybody how to solve this problem (which is already listed in the Alchemy's FAQ) BUT for Catalyst 7.0 under Windows Vista?
Thanks beforehand,

Note_The "C:\Catalyst 7" it's the default path of the instalation, if you have another, insert it,example: "C:\My programs\Translations\Catalyst 7"
Now you can run the program normally^^ ▲ Collapse | | | Elena Carbonell Netherlands Local time: 16:25 Member (2007) English to Spanish + ... TOPIC STARTER Thank you but... | Aug 12, 2008 |
You knew there was a but somewhere...why is there always a but??
I already tried it...in Spanish was ejecutar (run) so I got the run window.
The thing is that when I do it and although I got the path OK I get an error message that Windows doesn't recognize the file. I looked in explorer and the file is there. I am writing now to Alchemy support because Windows Vista doesn't recognize these ocx as executables so it doesn't to anything with them...

The answer to this issue on our web site in the Frequently Asked Questions section is also applicable to Vista.
Click Start | Run and follow the FAQ using the following path:"C:\Program Files\Alchemy Software\Catalyst 7" assuming the default installation paths were used. | |

Before I contacted the support line I have already tried everything in the FAQ. I tried everything again (regsvr32, turning off the UCA, deinstalling, installing...you name it) that the technical support suggested and we even had an online conference meeting where I gave him control of my desktop so he could run all these possibilities himself again.
To no avail.

I have worked for a long time as a support technician for a major computer company so I am used to follow the troubleshooting solutions so I was looking at possible solutions myself and thought of the obvious ... Vista is the core problem.
So I deinstalled it from the laptop I have optimized for translation and have installed in an old desktop computer with Windows XP ...and no problem whatsoever!
I have to say that the support team is very nice and they really want to help you but my case was one of those that for some reason or other will escape reason.
I know this is a known problem with Windows Vista but the solution didn't work with my computer.
They are still looking into the problem since I really want the program to run on my laptop.
I let you know if/when there is a solution available. ▲ Collapse | | | There is no moderator assigned specifically to this forum.
