In May this year I still was able to install DV X3 on a new laptop and switch the license key I got a couple of years ago. If their license client is dead as well, then you should be able to make it run on any new installation, because it won't be counter checked any longer then, I would guess.

You can install dvu in a virtual machine. If you get new hardware, transfer the vm to it.

Yep. I tried a new download, where you have to fill in a form. I recieve a confirmation mail with a link. It's a dead link now.

Now it's not just a matter of keeping the install files: you have to keep the installation save: no motherboard upgrades, OS reinstallations, whatever can deactivate the activated DejaVu Licence.
Also switching between laptop and desktop computer (alternating active licence) will be harsh.

Atril could have changed business model several times over the last 2 decades but it didn't. Last time I saw the cofounder and Atril representatives was, I think, at the ATA conference in 2011 or 2011.

I never actually worked with DVX2, it crashed 3 times out of 2. ;-) So I got DVX3. Time ago I sold my DVX3 license and I have been working ever since with Cafetran, MemoQ, Studio, Wordfast Pro. Yes, DéjàVu is old and I wrote to Atril just out of sheer curiosity about how much an upgrade may cost. Time to give licences away for free ... ;-) [/quote]

I never actually worked with DVX2, it crashed 3 times out of 2. ;-) So I got DVX3. Time ago I sold my DVX3 license and I have been working ever since with Cafetran, MemoQ, Studio, Wordfast Pro. Just reinstall Déjà Vu X3 on your new computer. There are several installation guides on the web. Atril is most certainly dead as a company and its products are abandonware.

The msi file seems to be part of the install package itself and therefore can't be found easily.

The Atril support service suggested a problem in a project for one of the messages.

I tried a different tack and upgraded my terminal to Windows 11. I still get the error message multiple times, but by dint of deleting all my projects and translation memories (after backing them up elsewhere!) bar one which didn't immediately crash, it seems to work. I'll make that do for now and see what happens when I actually need it for a project! (This is on my laptop which I use only when travelling).

I'm still running Win 10 on the device in question, no apparent reason for the crash. My partner and I are running DVX2 on two other Win 11 devices with no problem. My Win 10 computer claims the file isn't on my computer anywhere. I might try upgrading to Win 11 and seeing if that does anything!

I recently contacted support via the Atril site to resolve a DVX2 license issue and they responded very quickly via the customer support site, but no response at all to my more recent query.

Hi David,

It looks like you try to run X2 on Win 11, do you? Could be a problem because X2 was developed when even Win 10 wasn't created, but has been at least compatible to Win 10.
I would try to search manually for the file in question in your computer and place it into the position where needed, but don't ask me where exactly.

"Atril not responding": I'm afraid there is no ATRIL any longer, but only a different company keeping the licenses running.
Perhaps you should consider an upgrade to X3, even in tough times as today. Could be worth it when you still reckon with jobs for some next years going on, though on a minor level.

Thanks for the tip!

When I run the "modify" option from the Apps menu, it first asks me to find setup.exe. I have managed to get the system to find that file by moving it to a new folder and it will start the process, but I get a message that it cannot find "DejaVuX2.msi", says it is in an inaccessible resource.

Note: even though I've uninstalled DVX2 to do a reinstall, it still recognises the previous activation code. I'm confused!

Also worried that Atril is still not responding. Did I miss some company news?

Have you tried the Déjà Vu X2 integrated repair tool?

"The Deja Vu X2 installer includes a repair function that will restore any potentially corrupted program files without affecting your user files, settings, or translation databases.

1. Close any running Déjà Vu X2 sessions.
2. Open the Control Panel from the Windows Start menu.
3. Navigate to Programs and Features. (On older versions of Windows, this may be called Add or Remove Programs).
4. Find and select Déjà Vu X2 from the list of installed programs.
5. Click the Change option.
6. In the setup dialog that appears, select the Repair option.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Longtime user of DVX2, it has just fallen over on one of my devices (something about a corrupted DLL file). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no joy. Can anyone help me fix this (I seem to remember a workaround some years ago)?

Hi, I can only adhere.

I have been testing a lot of alternatives lately. Let me recall: Trados 2024, Wordfast Pro and Anywhere, CafeTran.
None of them come close to the ease of use of DV.

Ease of use for me, as a sworn translator (no project management, no colab, just single PDF/Word translations), means: hability to QUICKLY add, open en export files, edit source segment, view untranslated segments, finish jobs as if I was working in Word. No tags whatsoever, and no "open/close segment" garbage. I just click in any source/destination segment and can write. F5 for copy source and F4 to confirm and move to next untranslated.

And above all, 100% integration with Dragon Speaking's contextual correction menu, something that no-one else can.

Terrified if some day it will not work....

Even if you have Live preview enabled, check the ribbon. Go to View, click on the Preview button, then select the type of preview: Normal, Auto Hide or Off.

I still use Déjà Vu X3 whenever the client doesn't require an online or Trados workflow, which is rare though. One of the convenient features I like is how easy it is to add or export individual files within a project, or to switch between translating files separately or all files within a project consecutively.

It is good, but does it run? I remember Microsoft changed something in Windows 10 that wreaked havoc in DVX3, making it unable to even launch. Has this issue been fixed Windows 11?
