In August, we sent out a survey to gather feedback from families about their needs at Salish Ponds. While we received some responses, we are hoping for more input in the near future.
During EKT, we met with families to listen to their needs for their students. They expressed a desire for their children to learn in a welcoming and safe environment.
This year, at our back-to-school night, we had the opportunity to connect with families and understand their needs for growth. We hosted a dinner, engaged community partners to support various needs and activities, and organized a scavenger hunt for students. Our principal also took the time to explain what a Title I school is, review last year’s goals, and discuss our plans for this year. We invited families to join us in this important work.
Our leadership team has been actively discussing cohorts of students to track the impact of our changes, systems, and intervention plans. Additionally, our attendance team began its work in September, analyzing the last two years of attendance data to identify trends, increases, and root causes of stagnation.
This year, we have planned evening activities for the first three months to bring families and the community together. From December to February, we collaborated with our PTO to organize evening events, and from March to June, we have scheduled community events. Five of these evening events will provide activities, resources, and food for our students and families.

We learned that families want to be heard, feel like partners in their child’s education, and have the time to attend events. They expressed a desire for our systems to support a safe learning environment for their children and to be actively involved in the school community.
