Pour optimiser la durée de vie des batteries, il est important de recharger les batteries correctement. Le choix d’un chargeur de batterie adéquat est donc crucial. Les chargeurs de batterie entièrement automatiques peuvent restés raccordés à la batterie et modifient le chargement en fonction de l’état de la batterie. La puissance des chargeurs de batterie doit être adaptée à la capacité de la batterie.
Deux types de chargeurs de batterie sont disponibles, c.-à-d. les chargeurs conventionnels et les chargeurs à haute fréquence. Ceux-ci sont équipés de redresseurs, qui, comme leur nom l’indique, « redressent » le courant à haute fréquence, ce qui permet de réduire le transformateur et les pertes. Le chargement à haute fréquence produit moins de chaleur et donne un rendement plus élevé. Le taux de rendement pour la transformation du courant alternatif en courant continu est de 75 % pour les chargeurs conventionnels et de 90 % pour les chargeurs à haute fréquence.
La différence au niveau du rendement justifie le remplacement immédiat des chargeurs conventionnels par des chargeurs à haute fréquence (HF). Si ceux-ci coûtent plus cher, le surcoût est vite compensé grâce aux économies d’énergie et aux économies au niveau du coût d’entretien. Le coût de l’investissement peut être récupéré en 2 à 3 ans.
D’un point de vie énergétique et pour la durée de vie des batteries plomb-acide, il est important que les chargeurs de batterie passent automatiquement au chargement à pulsation quand la batterie est presque rechargée. Cette mesure permet d’éviter des excès de température et de réduire la consommation d’eau. Cette technologie peut être appliquée pour les chargeurs conventionnels et à haute fréquence.

Volautomatische batterijladers kunnen permanent op de batterij aangesloten blijven en regelen het laadproces naargelang de toestand van de batterij. Het door de batterijladers af te geven vermogen moet daarbij steeds aangepast zijn aan de capaciteit van de batterij.
Twee types batterijladers kunnen worden onderscheiden: conventionele laders en hoogfrequente laders. Hoogfrequente laders zijn voorzien van gelijkrichters die, zoals het woord aangeeft, met hoge frequentie de stroom gelijkrichten. Hierdoor worden de transformator en de bijhorende verliezen veel kleiner. Hoogfrequent laden resulteert in minder warmteproductie en dus een hoger rendement. Het rendement bij de omvorming van wisselstroom naar gelijkstroom bedraagt bij conventionele laders 75 % en bij hoogfrequente laders 90 %.
Het verschil in rendement is van dien aard dat het economisch verantwoord is om alle aanwezige conventionele laadstations onmiddellijk te vervangen door hoogfrequente. Een hoogfrequente lader (HF) is weliswaar duurder in aanschaf, maar de meerkosten worden snel gecompenseerd door de besparingen op energie en onderhoudskosten. De investering kan binnen 2 à 3 jaar terugverdiend worden.
Vanuit energetisch oogpunt en voor de levensduur van loodzuurbatterijen is het belangrijk dat de batterijladers automatisch overgaan op een pulserende laadspanning als de batterij bijna volledig opgeladen is. Zo wordt vermeden dat de temperatuur te hoog oploopt en wordt het waterverbruik beperkt. Deze technologie kan toegepast worden op conventionele laders en hoogfrequente laders.

Source text - English Adiabatic cooling is a sustainable cooling method based on a simple and natural process: the evaporation of water. This evaporation extracts energy from the air, causing its temperature to drop. This cooler air is then blown into an area. The temperature of the supplied air is 5°C to 10°C lower than the outside temperature. Also, the operating costs of this cooling method are very low. Adiabatic cooling can be applied by installing a spray system on a dry cooler to lower the air temperature from dry-bulb temperature to wet-bulb temperature. This allows for free cooling at higher outside temperatures, thus requiring less compression cooling.

If the condenser pressure is set at a fixed condensation temperature of 45°C, the temperature difference will often exceed 10°C. This means that the compressor has to work harder to release the heat. In such cases, the condenser pressure can be lowered in order to save energy. A 1°C drop in condensation temperature results in a 3% saving. The result is that the condenser fans have to work harder to extract the heat from the cooling installation, which requires more fan energy. However, less compressor energy is required because condensation takes place at a lower temperature. There is an optimal ΔT, when the sum of the compressor energy and fan energy is at its lowest. It is not clear whether the current setting is optimal. By varying the setting, the optimum can be found.

Source text - English Unlike a ground-coupled heat exchanger, this technique can be used just about anywhere in Flanders, which constitutes its main advantage. The heat can also be fed into the ground using a closed hydraulic circuit and a number of vertical heat exchangers. The latter are plastic tubes that are inserted vertically as a loop into a 20 to 150 m deep borehole. Storage capacity is created by installing several exchangers at a short distance from each other (2 to 4 m). The attainable yield (50 to 80%) of the system depends on the subsoil type, the size and the temperature level of the storage. The technique offers great advantages for the long-term storage of thermal energy (cold or heat) in the subsoil with an almost unlimited storage capacity.

Source text - English This technique is particularly interesting for projects with a significant cooling demand. In order to implement a ground-coupled heat exchanger, an aquifer is required. Two tubes are drilled in this layer at a distance of 100 to 150 metres. These tubes are usually 50 to 150 metres deep. If cooling is required during summer, groundwater (12°C) is extracted from one of the two tubes (cold source) and a heat exchanger is used to supply the cold to the cooling circuit. The cold is extracted from the pumped groundwater, which heats up the groundwater, which is then injected into a second tube, the heat source. Conversely, if heating is required during winter, the stored hot groundwater from the summer is pumped up again. Using the same heat exchanger, the heat is released to the water circuit in the building to be used for pre-heating the ventilation air. The groundwater cools down because of this heat release and is injected into the second tube, called the cold source. Here it is stored until the following summer, when a new need for cooling arises. In other words, the extracted groundwater is injected again and again, which means that no groundwater is consumed. In a ground-coupled heat exchange system, therefore, both the stored cold and the stored heat can be used.

Hierin worden twee putten geboord op een onderlinge afstand van 100 en 150 meter. De diepte van deze putten bedraagt doorgaans 50 tot 150 m. Als er in de zomer koude nodig is, wordt er uit één van beide putten (koude bron) grondwater (12°C) opgepompt. Via een warmtewisselaar wordt deze koude afgegeven aan het koelcircuit. De koude wordt onttrokken aan het opgepompte grondwater. Hierdoor warmt dit grondwater op, waarna het wordt geïnjecteerd in een tweede put, de warme bron. Omgekeerd, als er in de winter behoefte aan warmte is, wordt het opgeslagen warme grondwater uit de zomer weer opgepompt. Via dezelfde warmtewisselaar wordt de warmte afgegeven aan het watercircuit in het gebouw zodat het gebruikt kan worden om de ventilatielucht voor te verwarmen. Het grondwater koelt door deze afgifte van warmte af en wordt in de tweede put, de koude bron, geïnjecteerd. Hier blijft het opgeslagen tot de volgende zomer, wanneer er weer behoefte aan koeling bestaat. Het onttrokken grondwater wordt dus steeds weer geïnjecteerd, zodat er geen grondwater wordt verbruikt. Bij een KWO-systeem kan dus zowel de opgeslagen koude als de opgeslagen warmte worden gebruikt.

Source text - English This Scope 3 emissions category includes the upstream emissions from the production of fuel or energy in the form of electricity or heat. These are the emissions that occur during the extraction of crude oil and the processes that take place in the refinery to produce petrol, diesel and other fossil fuels. The same applies to the production of electricity, which requires the necessary fuel and facilities. This refers to green electricity and the construction of solar and wind farms, and biomass and hydroelectric plants. The associated upstream emissions are all included in this Scope 3 emission category and are broken down by energy source in the figure below. This category accounts for 0.03% of Scope 3 emissions, or 54.46 tonnes of CO2e. The emissions were calculated using the EcoInvent 3.6 database in combination with national emission factors.

What is my professional and educational background?
I am a 49-year-old translator from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium with 20+ years of experiencein translating French and English texts into Dutch. After obtaining a degree in Media and Communication Studies in 1997, I gave up my initial plan of becoming a journalist and decided to study translation instead, with English and French as my source languages.
My career as a freelance translator started directly after graduating in 2002. Fortunately, during this challenging period, I could fall back on the two translation agencies where I had interned as a student in the summer of 2001 for work. After being diagnosed with severe chronic bowel disease in 2005, I started work as an in-house proofreader and translator for a Brussels-based translation agency. The experience gained there allowed me to pursue my career as an in-house translator for a variety of organizations active in the field of real estate and urban development, social security, healthcare and IT services (see my attached CV for more detailed information).
In 2017, I picked up freelance translation again while also travelling as a house-sitter and pet-sitter in France and Belgium. My current clients are active in solar and wind energy and sustainable energy consultancy, in legal advice and real estate, project management software, social security and social services, tree health management and in marketing.
