Bio

My professional background is in
veterinary medicine, with a specialization in veterinary anaesthesia and
intensive care. I have mostly practiced in the UK and in Ireland, then spent a
year in the Netherlands before coming back home to Belgium. Most of that time
was spent in academia. I have published a few papers in peer-reviewed journals
and presented posters and abstracts at conferences, in addition to writing
course and seminar notes, exam questions, etc., both in French and English.

I then decided to take another orientation and, building on my knowledge
of languages (from school, evening classes or my work abroad), went back to
university to study German and English Languages and Literature, with the aim
to work as a translator in the medical and scientific field. I have always been
an avid reader and enjoyed the variety of classes the degree had to offer,
going as far as enrolling for quite a few extracurricular classes to expand my
field of knowledge. Going from feeling fairly anxious about the literary focus
of that degree course to rapidly achieving very good results, and a degree in
self-confidence I never thought possible, I quickly realized that more literary
texts also suit me. My interests are far-ranging, both in my private and in my
professional life.

I enjoy the variety of tasks that working as a translator brings, even
if my area of expertise lies within the medical field. Thanks to my experiences
as an academic, I have a good understanding of what is expected in scientific
writing and my understanding of the subject greatly enhance the quality of my
work (both when translating or proofreading). I pay attention to details and I
am thorough. Although I am fairly new in the field of translation, I have
already worked on consequent translation projects for the medical field.
