Source text - English „« Cultural diversity and global common goods
Today various forces threaten linguistic diversity on the information networks. Increasingly, knowledge and information are key determinants of wealth creation, social transformation and human development. Language is the primary vector for communicating knowledge and traditions, thus the opportunity to use one¡¦s language on global information networks such as the Internet will determine the extent to which one can participate in the emerging knowledge society.
Thousands of languages worldwide are absent from Internet content and there are no tools for creating or translating information into these excluded tongues. Huge sections of the world¡¦s population are thus prevented from enjoying the benefits of technological advances and obtaining information essential to their well-being and development. Unchecked, this will contribute to a loss of cultural diversity on information networks and a widening of existing socio-economic inequalities.
The UNESCO Recommendation on the promotion of multilingualism and universal access to Cyberspace, which proposes measures fostering universal access to digital resources and services and facilitating the preservation of cultural and language diversity, should be further translated into concrete actions. Nation-states should turn it into an international legal instrument on cultural diversity, looking into the preservation of global common goods, fostering indigenous cultures and local languages for access to information, with local control and ownership of financial mechanisms.
Translation - French Diversité culturelle et biens communs mondiaux
Translation - English Somewhere along the road in Maine (USA), in the middle of the forest, there is a guardhouse where state police officers check the identity of visitors in a serious and efficient way. Anybody may not get in. One has to be mentioned on a list. We are coming at the right time, precisely on the arrival day of the ambassadors of all the countries concerned by the Israelo-Palestinian conflict, and even the Chief of the Egyptian Cabinet has come. They address children to explain what they are doing here and bring a touch of hope. It is the second session of this summer. The first one was more intended to countries such as Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Geopolitical difficulties and agreements between countries don’t make exchanges easy. We shall hear that President Shimon Peres and the leader Mahmoud Abbas could not secure the safety of teen-agers to make them get out of the GAZA strip controlled by Hezbollah. They could not take part in the session although they had been selected. Here, these extreme tensions do not show through these surroundings. 150 seeds are looked after by about sixty facilitators, counsellors and delegators who supervise them during the journey and the duration of the camp, and will take each of them back to his country.

Bio
Trilingual Secretary - French, English, Spanish - working for 20 years on behalf of MANPOWER Temporary Work Agency, I proved to be an efficient and reliable translator. Companies who had called Manpower and hired my services to meet their translation needs, found my work very satisfactory and repeatedly called Manpower for further collaboration. In the meantime I studied Turkish. I am now a freelance translator with four languages at my disposal : French (my mother tongue), English, Spanish and Turkish, and the possibility to provide invoices. I like to have a friendly relationship with my customers, especially since I consider that the translation process implies mutual confidence. In other words, while customers expect from me a good translation delivered in due time, I expect to get paid and it is necessary that we trust each other to reach an agreement. I also insist on the absolute respect of confidentiality, as it has often happened that private matters come to my knowledge. Being a trained secretary, I type fast and pay great attention to syntax and spelling. I enjoy translating and always do my best to make sure that my customers are pleased with the translation that I deliver to them with delays as short as possible.
