I just received the following from a friend. The message claims it was written by Andy Rooney from the US TV program "60 Minutes", but I have no way to confirm.

Nevertheless, this made my day, and I wanted to share it. I hope it will put smiles in many faces:

Andy Rooney says:

I just received the following from a friend. The message claims it was written by Andy Rooney from the US TV program "60 Minutes", but I have no way to confirm.

Nevertheless, this made my day, and I wanted to share it. I hope it will put smiles in many faces:

Andy Rooney says:

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are
just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.

If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit
around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's
usually something more interesting.

A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is,
what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40
give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with
you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of
course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they
think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what
it's like to be unappreciated.

A woman over 40 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women
friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best
friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over
40 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she
knows her friends won't betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to
a woman over 40. They always know.

A woman over 40 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not
true of younger women.

Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than
her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if
you are a jerk or if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to
wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart,
well-coiffed hot woman of 40+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow
pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk
for free." Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against
marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire
pig, just to get a little sausage.

Thank you so very much!!! Mar 31, 2006

There I was, at my desk working - OK, I admit I popped in at Proz for a little R&R - and feeling sorry for myself since yet another weekend will be spent toiling in front of my computer.

From all of us, thank you.

Couldn't agree more...I've always found women in their 40s to be more "complete" than the youngsters. I can connect better with them. They care less about the way you look, and focus more on what you are as a human being.

No offence to anyone, it's just my humble opinion (and it's NOT because I am approaching my 40s...)
Thanks for sharing it!

Cheers G

40, you say, what's this age fixation? Mar 31, 2006

I don't know how old my wife is, I would have to calculate it. This is not because I don't care enough to keep track - on the contrary, I love her too much to worry about such minor details. I am being serious here.

...and well-coifed - well, I cut her hair, and it still looks better than what the professionals here want to produce.

I've always valued women over 40, even before growing old.

I believe Rooney just preferred to ignore these women (after all, no group is perfect). Personally, I'd line them right next to the bald, paunchy relics in yellow pants...

Isn't experience worth much more than looks and muscles?

As handsome as Orlando Bloom can be, if I were going to aim my charms at someone, it would be men from the generation of George Clooney and the sort.

Belonging to the group and proud of it! Mar 31, 2006

This made my day, thanks, especially the part about piggy's undersized sausage. Sorry, Juan, but I could not resist.

I am ovre 40 and proud of it. Mind you, age is just a state of mind. I am really only 21; it is just my body that is failing me. Chuckle!

All kidding aside. I have never felt better than now. My mind is seasoned and now definitely at a peak. When will it go down, who knows.

Bodywise. Must say that I am not slender (never ever was, though).

Bodywise. Must say that I am not slender (never ever was, though). I definitely could use more exercise and heaping doses of willpower. However, I try to look on the positive side. I call myself 'pleasingly plump' and just leave it at that.

Don't know what will happen in another 30 years. I don't even want to contemplate it. No sense in worrying before it is time.

Happy weekend, all!

Greetings from sunny Suriname!

"Our profession is based on knowledge and experience. It has the longest apprenticeship of any profession. Not until thirty do you start to be useful as a translator, not until fifty do you start to be in your prime.
The first stage of the career pyramid –the apprenticeship stage– is the time we devote to investing in ourselves by acquiring knowledge and experience of life. Let me propose a life path: grandparents of different nationalities, a good school education in which you learn to read, write, spell, construe and love your own language. Then roam the world, make friends, see life. Go back to education, but to take a technical or commercial degree, not a language degree. Spend the rest of your twenties and your early thirties in the countries whose languages you speak, working in industry or commerce but not directly in languages. Never marry into your own nationality. Have your children. Then back to a postgraduate course. A staff job as a translator, and then go freelance. By which time you are forty and ready to begin."

Since she's probably tired of being quoted to death in these forums I'll link you to the thread where Lanna had something to say: http://www.proz.com/topic/37422
