Black frame around target segment in Trados Studio 2009 Thread poster: Artem Vakhitov

Hi all,
after accidentally pressing some key combination I don't remember, I now have a black frame around one target segment with no obvious reference as to what it is or way to delete it.
Any clues? | | |

I have had this same issue too. In my case it was a little bit wrong key combination for special characters with alt or accidentally alt gr and some key in number pad (don't rember which and if num lock was on).

Had the same odd thing happening to me while in the middle of a very big project. Question is: what influence will it have on the final product?
I met with many of these events. Even in a big project, I found that it had no effect at all. But I cannot explain why and what it is. Can Trados Gmbh tell us? Another program bug?

Transdiction (X) Italian to English + ... Mysterious black frame to be used as bookmark or flag | May 6, 2011 |
So far it doesn't appear to have any effect at all on the final product.
I was wondering if it could be used as a sort of "bookmark" or "flagging" function (like in Deja Vu) to help me keep track of where I'd like to arrive at for the day. To make it useful for this purpose the border would have to be wider and the colour should be brighter.
Just a suggestion.

I think you pressed (left) Alt + (left) Shift + 2 ( numpad). This creates a black frame around the target segment.
Then if you press/hold down Alt + Shift + Up/Down you can extend a gold coloured selection up or down starting from the frame, which selection is otherwise the first step of any batch procedure.
Now if you click on the selected area or press up/down/left/right arrow, the frame and the gold selected area disappear (the segments remain, of course).

The box is irritating when it appears - so thanks Istvan for the fix. I've come here on two occasions now from Google to find your advice (bad memory!) and though it about time I acknowledged your help.

Press (left) ALT+SPACE, you select a segment.
Now press ALT+ARROW DOWN for next (or up for previous) segment.
You have selected those segments - now you can merge them.
Of course those shortcuts apply, if you use the default settings - otherwise your adapted shortucts apply.

So please tell me know what is irritating or annoying with that box? ▲ Collapse

I had this problem again after nearly one year. I came back here and found your solution. Though it doesn't affect your final product it is annoying indeed.
Thanks again.

as this shows you that the segment has been selected and thus allowing you to know where you start merging segments or where your selection for changing segment status starts.
To use an analogy it would also be annoying, if you would hear the sound of your motor in the car you drive. No sound = no drive, so even in the most luxury cars with piston motors some sound isn't annoying at all
This shortcut combination is not optimal | Mar 21, 2012 |
Jerzy, of course it is annoying, as long as you don't know what this frame signifies. So without your help, it would still annoy me.
But I have to say that since the Alt key and the space bar are directly adjacent, there is a considerable and foreseeable risk that this combination is pressed by accident. To modify your analogy, this is like having a small button to lower the windows of your car somewhere on the outer perimeter of your steering wheel. Sure it is nice to have this button, bu... To modify your analogy, this is like having a small button to lower the windows of your car somewhere on the outer perimeter of your steering wheel. Sure it is nice to have this button, but now and then you will accidentally lower the windows while parallel parking. (Also, if you don't know that this button exists, you will wonder why the windows go down, because you didn't notice that you pressed it by accident. I would imagine this to be quite annoying.) ▲ Collapse
