I have used this feature for a number of times but never got any new ratings in reply to my request.
I usually visit the agency's page on Blue Board a few days later after I make a request, and have never seen any changes... Later I can see some new comments but nothing at the time of request.
I think that may be too few people are subscribed to this notification and even fewer reply to such inquiries.

Is it possible (if other members are interested too) to see some statistics as in case of creating KudoZ question: "Your request has been sent to XXX members"?

I am aware of other methods of inquiry about agency's payment practices, etc., and the information I can see on BB is really helpful, but in case when an agency has its last rating dated last year, I'd like to have some newer comments.

Requests go to about 1000 people... Nov 17, 2004

... and it is true that not many responses tend to be generated on short notice. Suggestions welcome.

make settings for receiving Blue Board queries more visible? Nov 17, 2004

Maybe I'm just slow on the uptake, but I didn't even know it was possible to get e-mail notifications for Blue Board queries until a while ago, long after I was already signed up to receive Kudoz questions, for example. I seem to recall that I found the tab in my profile where I could opt to receive these notifications by accident.

Would it be possible to give the Blue Board its own tab in the e-mail settings section instead of lumping it in the "other notifications" tab? That mig

Would it be possible to give the Blue Board its own tab in the e-mail settings section instead of lumping it in the "other notifications" tab? That might help. Maybe you could also include a note about how to receive these notifications in the Blue Board tab of the main profile page (where each person can see the ratings he/she has given to different agencies).

While we're on the subject... Would it be possible to receive a notification when someone has posted a comment on an agency we've asked about? I know this has been mentioned before. It would sure save time. The way things stand now, we have to keep going back every so often to see if anyone has answered.

My 2 cents

Agree: Give BlueBoard notifications its own tab Nov 18, 2004

I agree with Cindy - until reading this discussion I wasn't even aware that you could receive queries for the BlueBoard. So I've just added the notification in my profile, but seeing it as a tab heading would raise the initial awareness. Or even "BlueBoard and other notifications" in one tab, if space is an issue.

Notifications must be expressely requested Nov 18, 2004

Tayfun Torunoglu wrote:

Make Blue Board Notifications Seleceted as Default for all,
then you may give a link in each notification for changing the settings to No mail or other options.

Tayfun, I strongly disagree with your suggestion above. It is a general policy of ProZ.com (and any other well run websites) to send emails or notifications of any kind only if the members expressely sign-up and ask to receive them.

It may be considered too much invasive to send them by default and then require the recipients to sign-off.

Overflooding is my problem Nov 18, 2004

I've been subscribed to BB requests twice for some months each time, but at the end I finished de-selecting the option because there are too many requests.

My suggestions would be

- to allow selecting for which countries we want to receive requests (I remember that Mats Wiman suggested this more than two years ago)

- to "educate" translators exhorting them to rate all the outsourcers they have worked for.

- To include the list of all the reque

- agree on giving the BB notifications more visibility. I hadn't noticed that because I tend to read everything, but I have received requests from members about how to desactivate the option. This might mean that it's not obvious.

I would agree with Tayfun's suggestion if new members were not new. But they usually have so many things to discover that they would feel overflooded too.

My two Chilean pesos.

Thank you! Nov 18, 2004

Great points, folks. Some responses:

- It is true that many members do not notice the option to get requests for more info. Making this more prominent is a good idea.

- Gianfranco is right that it is generally considered unacceptable to have email notices on by default, and can result in ISPs blocking your domain, so that is not an option.

- Claudia's experience is common. Many people who sign up to receive notices later unsubscribe. The idea of making requests country-specific has been brought up in the past. I see now that would probably be a step in the right direction.

- Announcing requests in the newsletter is a great idea. Not all could be included because of the volume of requests, but a sample of a few would give people the idea and we could link to a page displaying requests, and the subscription option, from there. Now that I think about it, the default Blue Board tab could be a list of recent requests.

- More member education is certainly required. Please pass the word!

Suggestions Nov 18, 2004

Claudia Iglesias wrote:

May be this variant:
If someone don't want to rate the agency openly and/or for some reasons don't want to subscribe for receiving all notifications, s/he may subcribe for request notifications for the chosen agency and have an opportunity to share his/her experience privately through e-mail. This may look like the way of sharing rumors, etc., but any way the only person who will decide whether to accept or not such information is a requestor. BTW, the persons with good experience could also share detailed information (which is not possible on BB due to character limit).

- To include the list of all the requests of the month in the monthly letter (this would allow us to see once for all if we have anything to add to the BB comment).

It is a really good idea for the whole BlueBoard, but not very effective for the person who needs any comments in 2-3 days maximum.

- agree on giving the BB notifications more visibility.

Would it be possible to randomly or by any other method (for example as our photos rotating on the home page) choose and agency for requesting the whole ProZ community to add up to the agency's BB page? They can appear somewhere in the home page in a more visible manner than now, and each agency can be given not 15 minutes, but for example an hour...

I was also not aware that such notification option is available. Anyway, I subscribed yesterday and unsubscribed today and in the mean time received 43 requests. And I found that I didn't work for any of them. My suggestion is to give an option of "daily digest", similar to yahoogroups option, where all such requests are compiled into one mail and sent once in a day. This will save me reading and deleting 43 mails and I can see all the request in one glance and can decide if I have to respond or press the Del button.

Daily digest as default can be too slow Nov 19, 2004

Hi all,
Using a daily digest for all notifications would slow down the speed of responses. Hence, I'd like to reiterate a suggestion made before by several Jobs moderators.

Create a choice of receiving individual e-mails, or to get a digest every four hours, i.e. a maximum of six messages per day.

Best regards,
Ralf
