Pages in topic: [1 2] > | Another Multiterm function broken after the MT 2009 release... Thread poster: Grzegorz Gryc

Hi
Normally, when a new version is released, I expect at least the old functions are preserved if no improvement is made.
After the MT 2009 installation (and the forced MT 2007 uninstall), I can't longer add terms directly from TagEditor 2007.
A working service pack is expected for the 2007 series?
Cheers

I have Multiterm 8.1.1067.0 and TagEditor 8.3.0.863 and I have the same bug. I used an xml, html and a ttx file. Grzegorz, I'll email SDL about this. | | | Selcuk Akyuz Türkiye Local time: 11:16 English to Turkish + ... This problem was not reported before | Oct 12, 2009 |
It has been almost 4 or 5 months since the release of Studio but this problem was not reported before, strange!. It seems that no one is using Multiterm 2009 with TagEditor; or people are opening Multiterm to add terms What about SDL Trados Terminology Verifier plug-in, does it work?
Terminology verifier isn't working either. It seems to need Multiterm 7.
I get this error:

It seems that the beta testers were all using Studio. I for once haven't used Word or TagEditor in months.

BTW.
As I think Trados 2009 is still unreliable, I use separate machines for the Trados 2007 workflow and Trados 2009 testing, so why I missed it.
What about SDL Trados Terminology Verifier plug-in, does it work?
Of course, NO.
And all the Multiterm related Synergy 2007 stuff doesn't work.
I noticed both errors to SDL.
Cheers

Fortunately I haven't installed Studio 2009, and SDL Service PAck 1 release confirms my suspect of this new platform.
But something makes me angry with SDL, and the fact that Synergy doesn't recognize MultiTerm 8 even if installed from the same packet acquired from SDL, and worst, that TagEditor only works with MultiTerm 7 it's unbelievable.
Awaiting SDL explanations and alternatives for this boring issue which means loss of time and money. | | | Time to move on? | Nov 8, 2009 |

Right or wrong, I'd say it's time to leave TagEditor behind. The verifier works fine in Studio and so does the feature for adding terms on the fly. | | | In addition a combination of Multiterm 2007 and Windows 7... | Nov 8, 2009 |

Attention.
Officially, Multiterm 2007 and 2009 can't coexist.
AFAIK some patch is on the road but I don't know when it will be released.

An usual Multiterm mess...
But you can add terms after a right click on Workbench.
It's more fastidious but it works.

You suggest SDL brake it intentionally in order to help us to make te right decision and speed up the switch?![](https://cfcdn.proz.com/images/bb/smiles/icon_smile.gif)
PS.
In some scenarios T2007 is two times more rapid than T2009.
E.g. see:
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/144580-ridiculous_studio_2009_performance_for_not_so_huge_excel_files.html
And sometimes it's just easier because the customers still prefer T2009.
I love the CAT hopping but sometimes it is not worth the effort.

...thanks to Grzegorz´s comments and kivech´s instructions I could reinstall Multiterm 2007 on Windows 7 and now it works together with TagEditor. I never would have changed to Windows 7 unless I was forced to because my old XP machine has crashed...but it seems not too many people miss Multiterm at all? But anyway... | | | Shame on SDL | Apr 17, 2010 |
The point is not abandoning a tool just because the CAT vendor releases a new version. The real problem is that the CAT vendor (SDL) releases a "new program" (Trados Studio 2009) with old CAT tools updated (TagEditor 8.0, Multiterm 2009), but these updated tools don't work together, and you are forced to reinstall an older version (in this case, MultiTerm 7) to have an essential functionality (in this case, Terminology Verifier)...

The problem is simple: SDL has to be honest and explain why they have updated SDL Trados TagEditor to Version 8.0 but haven't updated its capability of working with Multiterm 8.0!!
Is there any reasonable explanation for this? I'm truly upset because you only discover this significant issue (since we expend lots of money to update, upgrade etc. etc.), which prevents you from doing a terminology QA in your finished jobs, when for instance, you go to Tools > Plug-ins > Verifiers > SDL Trados Terminology Verifier, click in Properties, and receive a message stating "The Terminology verifier requires MultiTerm 7 to be installed. The plug-in cannot be used."
Thank you SDL for the brilliant product you have induced us to buy!!
I suggest everybody to send upset e-mails asking money back, as it's truly a shame...
When SDL will correct this major issue? ▲ Collapse

The easiest way to finish with these "truths" is to release SP4.
Then definitively finish the T2007 development.
The same with Multiterm 2007.
It should drastically reduce the number of compatibility problems in the wild.
It's just one man-day for the developpers and you have better public relations and less unnecessary support cases.
Unless your tactics is to carefully maintain this mess in order to incite the people to switch to T2009.
Cheers
