Spanish term

doce vías instaladas

Spanish to English Other Tourism & Travel
Hi everyone,

This appears in an article promoting El Bruc (a village located in Catalunya) as a tourist destination.

Any ideas?

Kind regards,

Jack

Spring Hi Jack,
Sounds like a natural spring flowing out of the rock. It looks like they're promoting it as a good place to climb in summer, in the cave there's shade and water. Out on the cliff faces exposed to the sun you get roasted.
Jack Ward (asker) Mar 12, 2013:
Jo, would you translate 'fuente' as simply 'fountain'?
Jo Macdonald Mar 12, 2013:
Nope Hi Carol, a via ferrata is high altitude cables and ladders bolted to the mountain, this is sport climbing in a cave. The pro will be bolted, you climb on a rope with your belayer protecting you from the ground, clipping quickdraws in to the pro and rope as you go.
Carol Gullidge Mar 11, 2013:
Via Ferrata? Could it be shorthand for via ferrata?

12 bolted sport climbing routes

Hi Jack
I climb sport and trad.
Doce vías instaladas will be 12 bolted sport climbing routes or 12 bolted routes

You can see a few climbers here
http://esgarrapacrestes.blogspot.com.es/2007/09/la-balma-de-...

Those look like grade 8+ roofs, very hard. They will definetely be bolted so you only have to carry quickdraws to clip the rope in to the bolted pro (a stainless steel plate bolted to the rock).

Line is more often used if climbers are studying the route/climb and they will look at the line of the wall or crack they want to follow.

There’s a video of someone climbing one of the routes here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2djFm5q-MSg&noredirect=1

These guys climbed this route "Techo Grafiosis" aid climbing (escalar en artificial), which means you use the pro to pull/step yourself up the wall, but say it is also free climbed (escalar en libre) (grade 7c).

Thanks Jorge! I'm not 100% sure that this is right, but it might lead to a confirmation if it is.

twelve climbing routes installed

Just as it is said in Spanish. "doce vias instaladas".
