Spanish term

fase/proceso de contratación

Spanish to English Social Sciences Psychology Consultation
I'm translating a syllabus for a graduate course in Psychology; it's a "Consultation Module." The word "contratación" keeps coming up--I'll list several contexts below. I've been looking all night for a parallel text in English but can't find a thing.

I have a Glosario de Psiquiatría with this definition for "contrato": "Compromiso explícito entre el paciente y el terapeuta para un curso de acción bien definido para alcanzar el objetivo del tratamiento." I'm pretty sure, from later context, that this definition is the right one (rather than a potential client "hiring" or seeking the help of a particular psychologist).

I would love to have confirmation from a person with knowledge of the field, and I still need to know how to express the above phrase in English. I've read through dozens of Psychology course descriptions posted online without finding anything helpful.

Contexts:

The Spanish text is from Puerto Rico and the English text will be used in the U.S., for accreditation purposes.

contract-making process/phase

Therapists often make contracts with their patients in order to define the limitations, goals and objectives of the therapeutic process.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The client tells me it should be "contracting." Your links were very helpful! Thanks a lot."

stage/process of establishing professional rapport; or even "professional bonding stage/phase"

it's a process of "bonding" between therapist and patient, i.e. adjustment to one another's aura, psychic emanations etc.

you can also say:

stage/process of forming a relationship (between practitioner and client)

stage/process of building a relationship (between practitioner and client)

the word "rapport" is actually used in your context to define the "contratación", that's where I got it from.
