Spanish term
islote pluviométrico
Spanish to English
Science
Metrology
I'm not sure of the exact technical term for this in English. Could I say 'precipitation zone' or something similar?
Many thanks in advance for any ideas!

rainfall pocket
Hi Sheila
What about a 'rainfall pocket'? As in:
Pastoral Districts: Rainfall over the Pastoral districts was generally average to below average. There was an ***isolated pocket of very much below average rainfall in the eastern half of the Northeast district. Several centers recorded single day rainfall totals, due to localized thunderstorm activity, which increased their total monthly amounts to above average. Rainfall totals over 10 mm were confined to ***isolated pockets in the Northwest district. ...
Agricultural Districts: Rainfall totals over the Agricultural districts were generally below average. There were ***isolated pockets of very much below average totals over the Western Agricultural and the Lower and Upper North districts.

Thanks for agree, and the only thing I wdn't be sure about is that orographic might refer to rainfall according to heights above sea level, whereas Sheila's case is orientation NSEW

zone of maximum precipitation
In reply to Lia :)
You almost always have a predominant wind direction.
The predominant wind direction (Est?) combined with the slope orientation (Est) may create drastically different microclimates in some mountain zones.
The Sheila's case seems to be a typical precipitation inversion model.

Your translation (rainfall pocket) is right but I'm just guessing about the mecanism :-)
Cheers
