reforzado (photographic technique)

Actually Catalan, but the terminology seems very similar so I'd like a wider audience :.)
It's a photographic technique and we're talking about the early days here, not later than 1920s.
"La gran varietat de formats de plaques sobre suports de vidre, nitrat o actetat, amb marques propies de càmeres i xassis diferents, amb processats diversos, (forçats, **reforços**, retocs…), indiquen una multitut de mans de diversos professionals.
Developer replenishing? Or simply enhancement? Ideas?

enhancement Thanks for your time and help, but in the end I really felt that "enhancements" was closest. I've found no other translation anywhere for this word in the context of photos (and it does seem to be referring to developping rather than taking the photos), but given the context I'm sure that "enhancement" is at least partly if not totally right. Another possible case of the author being too ambiguous and/or inventive with the lenguage. Thanks again.

No. it is just a mechanical support. But looking again at the phrase could also mean "reinforcement" of negatives after pictures are taken (or were taken)

reinforcement

...of the plates. When there were no films to take photographs with, cameras used "plates" o "placa (en español) coated with the photographic emulsion htat sometimes had to be reinforced (in thickness) with some compound just to stay in the plate. This is my first catalan to english, hope it works fine for you.
