'Sem esforço (Virgínia) transformava o andar em alguma coisa que significava alcançar (…) o corpo grande avançava. (…) ao toque de seu corpo o ar cedia: aproximava-se profundamente dos dois homens e inventava um corpo confuso e cínico como só uma mulher poderia imaginar'
Hi - could someone clarify the precise meaning of 'profundamente' in this context: does it mean 'really', as in 'she drew really close to the men' or is it possible that it actually refers to the subject and describes her attitude rather the distance between her and the men? In other words, are either of the following translations possible, or is neither correct?!
'she drew really close to the two men...'
'intensely, she moved towards the two men...'
many thanks in advance

Melhor não levar tudo o q sai da cabeça dela a sério, como ela mesma dizia. Tive a oportunidade de assistir a uma plestra especial dela, onde afirmava categoricamente q o q escreve não é pra ser entendido. Apenas sentido e pronto...rs

: It doesn't matter what she said...her words speak for themselves..what she writes and what she says are not the same..and any feelings one gets is from the words, the writings..

Comment: "Thanks everyone for giving this so much consideration - I've opted for 'drew intensely close' in the end as I think it maintains a certain ambiguity and also has an element of the 'deeply' of the originally"

: she drew deeply close to the two men - faz sentido com a sentença anterior, "ao toque de seu corpo o ar cedia" - é quase como um mergulho

she drew extremely close to
yes...it describes her attitude and not the distance....
here;s the point...it's describing her psyche..her mind..not her body...
the idea is: to draw close to someone..or course, this can be said also as:
she got extremely close to.....
this is talking about identification of this character to the men..she did not move intensely.....
final: to get extremely close to or to draw extremely close to

of what? that what is extremely close is her to their heads? There is no other reading..her physical self approaches and she therefore gets "extremely" close in the head
