These surgical procedures are directed at correction of the soft tissue around the tooth. Gingivectomy is the excision of the soft tissue wall of the periodontal pocket when the pocket is uncomplicated by extension into the underlying bone. Gingivoplasty is the procedure by which gingival deformities (particularly enlargements) are reshaped and reduced to create normal and functional form.
