That's the thing, João, you know this well. We use what the client says it's the right thing. If they say, for example "idôneo" is "qualified" as they just did the other day, I have to use it. Thank you and Rita for the references!

Maybe, I'm not saying they're not always the same thing. Anyway, as there is a word for "tangencial" and another for "cisalhamento", why not use the respective word? If the author decided to use "tangencial" instead of "cisalhamento" or "cortante", and here a literal translation is fit, why not use it? Of course, if the client says "just use shear" it won't be wrong at all.
