Results are perfectly OK used as a generic term, as it may be used in any document in any area, of course.
However, in accounting statements and documents, the specific term to be used is "earnings", as chosen by the asker.

Why can't this simply be 'potential result'? Although what it is doing on the balance sheet as profit is anybody's guess.
