Introduction to Biotechnology Instrumentation
This course* is designed to introduce students to various instruments used in the industry. The student will use and maintain various instruments in the lab which includes ordering reagents and requesting technical support from the manufacturer. The student will perform experiments using our high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), fast-protein liquid chromatography (FPLC), gas-chromatography-mass spectroscopy, and DNA sequencer instruments, to name a few. In addition, the student will perform experiments on our bioreactor.

Description:
This course will emphasis the analysis of real world samples using standard procedures and selected analytical instruments. In this course, students will operate and study the theory behind selected modern analytical instruments (UV-VIS, IR, NMR, AAS, GC, and HPLC). Techniques to evaluate instrumental analytical data through statistical analysis will also be covered.
