Italian term

corre voce tradizionale che ivi fosse chiesa e convento

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
A text at the head of a web page on a village close to the Cinque Terre in northern Italy. I assume this is part of a poem. In all honesty I do not really understand what the writer is trying to say (poetry is not my strong point, particularly 19th century poetry).

Also, do you know who Merzaroli was? Is Remondini his poem/book?

Discussion

silvia b (X) Jul 19, 2007:
Silvia (nata nelle Cinque Terre)

A quick look on Internet left me none the wiser about Remondini and Merzaroli, but I'm pretty sure the sense is that "traditionally folks say/rumour has it". As I'm sure you're aware, "convento" can be for monks or nuns, but if it's dedicated to S. Pietro, it may well have been a monastery.
