Italian term

Gruppo Operativo

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general) Policing
I assume that "nucleo operativo" refers to something like "Special Branch", but can anyone tell me the equivalent of "gruppo operativo" in the following (or at least explain the concept)? Thanks.

Operating Group

I think a literal translation is fine in the context -

... which until recently housed the Operating Group of the local police department of Oktyabrsky district of ... to the Criminal Police Operating Group of the Temporary Operating Group of ...

Or, you might want to consider "Operational Branch" - I think this is the usual UK term

... The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert ... police officers are under the sole control and instruction of federal agents," apparently now including the CIA's operational branch ...
