मिट्टी का सनम

Hindi to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
The phrase appears in the second line of the famous song "Thoda Resham Lagta Hai" from the film Jyoti: हमें ऐ चाहने वालो न मिट्टी का सनम समझो. Oh my admirers, don't consider me as .... People usually continue the translation "made of hard soil" but सनम means lover (or one of its meanings). Thanks!
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Nitin Goyal

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

A lover made of clay

As opposed to one made of flesh and blood, i.e. passionate. A मिट्टी का सनम would be lacking in passion.

An indifferent partner (other half).

Poetically or in literary genre, the word सनम, in most circumstances is used for a 'lover'. But in a broader sense, it denotes people with whom we have a relation fro the heart.
Could be a friend. The Soofi poets use this word to signify their attachment with their सनम i.e. their God or Guru.

Heartless and frgile lover

It's a metaphor to reflect a lover who doesn't have feelings as we humans have. Lover of clay, because in India especially in Hindi, poets using it to say about heartless people because when a clay idol become alive he/she may not have such feelings like humans. So it is just a metaphor.
