Something like the Zeche Zollverein in Essen, which actually has a Zechenfest. The mine is now closed down for coal mining, and the pithead buildings are used as cultural centres, museums etc.

This disused Colliery hosts the Barnsley Original Music Festival.
The remains of the pithead make an impressive backdrop to the festival."
