German term

im Kirchendienst (i.K.)

German to English Social Sciences Religion
Hi! Does anyone know what is the best way to translate the abbreviation "i.K." which stands for "im Kirchendienst" into English? In the original it follows the name and the title:
Oberstudiendirektor i.K.
Thank you!

The study of Catholic Theology is the educational basis for parish counselling activities in ecclesiastical service (ecclesiastical degree/Diplom).

As "im Kirchendienst" is a special addition to a clerk title in German speaking countries, I think this translation provided by Uni Mainz could be acceptable.

I don't know whether this is the correct title to use in this context, but the "i.K." means that the person is not only working as a teacher but also for the church (e.g. as parson/priest).
