Hi, I was just wondering if the Unternehmensgesetzbuch was valid only in Austria and could, therefore, be translated as "Austrian Commercial Code" in the following sentence of an annual report:
Eine Prüfung im Sinne der §§XXX Unternehmensgesetzbuch war nicht Gegenstand des Auftrags.
If it is not only applicable to Austria, what would be an alternative translation? Thanks!

Not Commercial Code, since the CC is the law that has been replaced by the Unternehmensgesetzbuch and a distinction needs to be made. I'm not happy with BEC, since the main content of the law is the same as the Commerical Code, while BEC sounds much more like it belongs in the field of company law, but it seems to be the usual translation

That is what it is called in South Africa, which is based on the British system.

: Mr. Wright - it is exactly 'Gesellschaftsrecht' and not 'Handelsrecht', so Mr. Wehrmann isn't entirely wrong, see my own answer.

Austrian Companies Act (Jahr)
In the UK, the 'Unternehmensgesetzbuch' is called 'Companies Act (2006 or 1885, as the case may be)', hence a British reader would associate the right things with the term 'Austrian Companies Act'. Not sure if the same applies to a US reader.
