A distinction seems to be made betwen the too (see below), but I can't think of a suitable English translation:
Um jeder Auseinandersetzung mit dem Arbeitsamt aus dem Weg zu gehen, sollten Sie im Zweifel keinen Aufhebungsvertrag, sondern einen Abwicklungsvertrag schließen.
Der Unterschied zwischen Abwicklungs- und Aufhebungsvertrag ist daher keinesfalls nur marginal. Bei einem Aufhebungsvertrag sind sich die Vertragsparteien darüber einig sind, dass das Arbeitsverhältnis beendet ist. Beim Abwicklungsvertrag wird hingegen das Arbeitsverhältnis nicht durch den Vertrag selbst beendet, sondern stattdessen durch eine arbeitgeberseitige Kündigung; der Vertrag regelt "nur" die Modalitäten wie Rückgabe eines Dienstfahrzeuges, Zahlung einer Abfindung, Wortlaut des Zeugnisses und ähnliches

They are 'revoking' all the perks in the original employment contract, like Dienstfahrzeug, Abfindung, etc., you're not fired but assigned to a drab, small office with nothing to do and given the cold shoulder treatment until you quit on your own.

There are good definitions of the difference between these two contracts in the (German) web reference. Basically, the "Aufhebungsvertrag" results in the termination of the working relationship by mutual agreement whereas the "Abwicklungsvertrag" assumes that the contract has been terminated by some other means and deals with the settlement process, hence "settlement contract"
