German term

Wirtschaftsstandort

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Dictionaries say this is a location for business or economic activities, but in German it's used in a special way that I find hard to reproduce in English. The following sentence is an example: "Hier finden Sie einen überblick über den Wirtschaftsstandort Köln und seine besonderen Standortqualitäten." Here you'll find an overview of the Cologne business location and its special location qualities. Horrible! Any better ideas?

Selected

...as a business location/hub; ...as a center of commerce and industry

(Just change syntax a bit:)

>>Cologne as a business location / business hub...<<

>>Cologne as a center of commerce and industry...<<

Edit a bit to suit the context and intent -- and perhaps the particular mix of businesses/industries in Kölle.

Economic Centre Cologne

This sounds right to me:

'...As Economic Centre West, Cologne holds a place at the top of the list of important German economic centres in terms of industrial location qualities ...' (Ref. 1, see below)

The Kölners also call their city
Commercial centre Cologne:

'... In the last decade Cologne has developed from a classical industrial centre into the modern service centre in western Germany.' (Ref. 2, see below)

this site also mentions: 'one of the Media Capitals, Tradefair Centre ...',
which is very nice, but Düsseldorf is just round the corner, being the real Commercial Centre of the area.
Industrial is not popular, unless you refer to 4711. Hence my answer.

"business centre of Cologne and the special characteristics

of its infrastructure". I tend to agree with Rolf on this one. (It's possible we're not hitting off quite the same register because of the military connotations of "Standort" as a deployment post, which is being used/overlaid to a certain extent.)

Some more variations on the same theme:

Your text sounds like Cologne would be pleased if some of the readers would site their businesses in Cologne. Here are a few more of the many possibilities for such a text:

Not knowing what might fit best with the rest of your context, one could write:
