department making the request
do we have a term for this in English? Or do we just say the department placing the order / making the request?

@ Marinus Vesseur (in response to your note):
Now I'm confused when I read the following statements one after the other:
a) The term refers to "eine Abteilung in einem Unternehmen".
b) "I don't think they mean a specific department, but rather any department or branch that happens to have purchasing demands."
requisition
1. A formal written request for something needed.
2. A necessity; a requirement.
...
Written request within an organization for a particular service or good. It typically is issued from one department to another. An example is a request form that must be filled out for office supplies to be released by the storeroom.

Note from asker:
This is not it, I'm afraid. Requisition is "Materialanforderung", also called "Bestellung auf Abruf". I don't think they mean a specific department, but rather any department or branch that happens to have purchasing demands. I thought "Area of Demand" could come close, but it sounds awkward. Thanks anyway! |
You're confused? Wait till you see the rest of the doc. I'm confused! But seriously: from where I used to work I know requisition to mean that a plant could order from a supplier (on demand) what had been purchased by Purchasing on the basis of a master agreement. But, as you point out, it can also refer to ordering goods or services from another department or even via another department. So it would have to be "The department that issues the requisition", only shorter. |
