Text assessing the results of a calls for proposals

I would just like to check whether in these instances "pilote" can be transalted as it has been below(similar to the meaning of "piloter") or whether it has the meaning of "pilot" as in "pilot/trial/model,etc. project" for example. Thanks in advance for any clarification on the use of these terms.

À l’exception de la philosophie qui est discipline **pilote** d’un projet, les disciplines de sciences humaines et sociales autres que la linguistique, comme par exemple la sociologie, l’anthropologie ou l’histoire des sciences ne sont disciplines **pilotes** d’aucun projet et sont très rarement disciplines partenaires.

With the exception of philosophy, which **heads** one project, the social and behavioural sciences other than linguistics – sociology, anthropology and history of science, for example – are **running** no projects and are very rarely involved as partner disciplines.

En revanche, le secteur de l’informatique, lorsqu’il n’est pas **pilote**, ne noue de partenariats qu’avec la linguistique;

On the other hand, when the IT sector is not **running** a project, it only forms partnerships with linguistics;

Les disciplines porteuses de projets sont majoritairement les SHS (4 projets:
2 **pilotés** par des philosophes, 2 par des économistes), cependant que la psychologie cognitive est **pilote** dans 1 projet et la modélisation informatique également dans 1 projet.
