French term

prod.

French to English Other Printing & Publishing Press article
I'm translating a statement of defence in which the defendant has quoted text from a newspaper article. At the end of the text, the term 'prod.' appears in brackets. Unfortunately, I can't work out whether it's the abbreviation of a French term, a Latin term or something else, so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Alan Douglas (X) Apr 12, 2013:
prod(uit) = prod(uced) seems to make the most sense.
Produce an exhibit = Produire une pièce à conviction
Victoria Britten Apr 12, 2013:
Aha! Yes, that would seem a distinct possibility.
Sarah Russell (asker) Apr 12, 2013:
Victoria, it appears after the final quotation mark. Someone has suggested that it could mean 'produit aux débats' ...
Victoria Britten Apr 12, 2013:
@Asker Where exactly does it appear: before or after the final quotation mark?

I'd have thought it meant that the actual newspaper article had been produced in evidence? Just guessing, though!
