or as John Peterson has it elsewhere so well - I guess this refers to the brand's history but within a context - its reception, what it was aimed at, etc. as well as the changing designs per se. So it is about the historic resources (if you like the brand's heritage) that they as designers are able to call upon and make reference to. At least, that is how I would understand it.

It is a generam statement that could apply to French or English brands, but they seem to work with French brands a lot: La Poste, SNCF, etc
