Change log

May 21, 2012 16:37: Yolanda Broad changed "Term asked" from "dans le fait meme" to "dans le fait même"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Nikki Scott-Despaigne

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Armineh Johannes (asker) May 21, 2012:
context Il est certain que dans ce cas, une partie du liquide de lavage et une partie de l´antibiotique neuro-toxique sont passées dans le lobe frontal entraînant une véritable lobotomie. L´intérêt de cette obserevation reside dans le fait même et aussi dans la réflexion faite par le neuro-chirurgien consulté dçeclarant qu´il avait déjà été alerté
philgoddard May 21, 2012:
Context Please give us the whole sentence, and the ones before and after it.

is significant per se

It does sound a little clumsy but put plainly I see it as meaning that 'what was noted is significant in itself, as well as the comment made by...
Peer comment(s):

agree B D Finch : I don't think that it is clumsy and it does fit the context best.

thank you!
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : I like this one too. Clumsy? Not at all.

I will now venture to say that I actually meant that it is the French that is a little clumsy (!)

Indeed! over-polite approach
disagree B D Finch : Not even a literal translation (which would be "in the very fact". Just wrong.

in the very fact (of)

I'm certain of my suggestion but we are certainly lacking context. It sounds as though "dans le fait même" shoudl be followed by a "de + inf", although what has gone before may make it possible as is.
Any chance of more context?

In the event of your sentence being complete as is, then as more succint version might be as follows :-

The observeration itself is where the interest lies.
The interest lies in the very observation.

OK, just seen the further context.

"L´intérêt de cette observation réside dans le fait même et aussi dans la réflexion faite par le neuro-chirurgien consulté dçeclarant qu´il avait déjà été alerté."

Potentially alters the meaning of "observation" from the first literal suggestion to "remark", "comment".

This remark is relevant/pertinent in itself..."

is of value in itself

"... in itself, and also by virtue of the neurosurgeon's report of having been alerted..."
constructively, from the explanation supplied in the discussion entry by Armineh, the asker.
