Tony M Apr 22, 2007:
Ahem, 1045: you never were alone, Writeaway and I suggested it ages ago! Only in the 'answer' box...
B D Finch (asker) Apr 22, 2007:
Thanks everybody - Yes I have thought again and now see how détenteurs does fit the context. Strangely, **détendeur** does get quite a number of ghits, including from French official sources. But, yes, I agree with your comments and **holders** seems to be the right translation.
Jean-Claude Gouin Apr 22, 2007:
B D Finch - Thank God, I'm not alone thinking "détenTeurs"!
Tony M Apr 22, 2007:
'détendeur' couldn't POSSIBLY be 'regulator' in the sense of 'regulatory body' — it means 'pressure release device', quite different! You will be very unwise to ignore the sound advice you have been given!
CMJ_Trans (X) Apr 22, 2007:
sorry but you need to think again
B D Finch (asker) Apr 22, 2007:
1045 I don't think so.
Jean-Claude Gouin Apr 22, 2007:

Note from asker:
Thanks. However, I think that it isn't a typo - I've now found "regulator" as a suggested translation on TERMIUM and this would be more appropriate to the context, so long as it can apply to a regulatory body as well as to a mechanical valve.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : It's a common enough mistake I've found on several occasions, in fact for 'détenteur' (spell checkers make it worse!)
