"Faction" has two meanings. 1) The duty of a sentry or a guard.
2) A shift, e.g. an 8-hour period of work.
Potentially either of these could apply, but we need to know more.
Ashlesha Phatak (asker) Sep 28, 2010:
The doc is about some database and this boitier de faction contains info like (Time reqd, No of persons, etc). It also has numbers which show its state..Could it be something like an interface between the computer screen and the database...
Bourth (X) Sep 28, 2010:
This is a surprising term. But not impossible, in a given context I suppose. Can you tell us what this IT document is about? A security system, maybe? What other boîtiers does it talk about?

guard condition/expression

I never saw that particular expression used but, from what little description we have, this is what springs to my IT mind:

Guard expression is a pre-condition that must be met (expression evaluates to TRUE) before a certain option or course of action becomes available. For instance, you can have a guard expression which will only eneable log-in option 9am-5pm weekdays. Or allows to enter amount to withdraw only if account is active etc.

In a way it's a filter in reverse. Filter allows you to select data to display while guard condition allows you to manipulate that data or, more generally, perform whatever action that condition guards.

Hope that helps but I agree, there isn't enough background for be sure.
Note from asker:
Thanks a lot for the explanation. I agree with you and it is suiting the context. So i would go for guard condition. Thanks once again

There is hardly anything out there on the WWW to give any help with this term.

Asker - please note that the correct spelling is "boîtier" and not "boitier".
