French term
dépassement actif
French to English
Bus/Financial
Finance (general)
In an email (from a bank) with the subject heading (in English) "Credit Line Request". The email goes on to discuss insurance and guarantees. As it is a very short email I have little context to go on.
"OK pour régulariser ce dépassement actif compte tenu des garanties en place."
I am unsure whether the "actif" here is "active" or "assets" in English.
I have been looking at this google entry to compare (Dépassement passif : dû à une évolution de marché
Dépassement actif : dû à un acte de gestion posé par le gestionnaire), but am still unsure:

exceeding credit limit, and "bank overdraft"
'Dépassement de crédit' is a common term for 'bank overdraft' so I speculate this would be exceeding a line of credit'
Can you tell if this is a brokerage account? Brokerages often offer a line of credit or 'margin trading' credit based on the value of assets in the account (usually stocks, bonds & cash). That would seem to make sense. They mean the account holder has exceeded the amount of credit his assets would justify. Or it could be another kind of asset based line of credit.
Dépassement de crédit definitely means bank overdraft, I reconfirmed it in my accounting/finance dictionary, but without more context I can't be certain of the above theory.
I'll try to research further.

Note from asker:
Unfortunately I have no idea what kinds of accounts they have. I am translating a series of emails that only discuss insurance policies covering precious metals and the shipment/storage of these metals. this is the only instance where there is mention of credit lines or dépassement actif. It's diffiuclt because most of the emails start with "following our telephone coversation today..." and of course I have no idea what exactly they discussed during that conversation |

Sorry, circular argument. Hadn't realized it was the same ghit that you had quoted.
