French term

trésorerie

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) MBA credential
This is an attestation of degree completion. The doument shows the name of the school, the graduate's name and dates for the examination and thesis completion, and signatures. Above the name of the school, handwritten, is Finance, Trésorerie et Ingenierie Financière. The school in question is the Institut Supérieur du Commerce de Paris. There's no other information, no list of courses, no specific degree name or specialization. I got the finance and financial engineering part, but what about Trésorerie? Something cash-flow related? Public revenue? Thank you in advance for any thoughts.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Julie Barber

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

cash management (US) or treasury (UK)

Trésorerie means cash in general, cash flow, or in this instance, cash management. Cash management is a function done usually in the comptroller's office or is a department in an investment bank. It means managing a company's cash to optimize its value using money market funds, t-bills, equities investment and short term financial instruments, etc.

In this context it means that the person has studied cash management at a business school.

If you google CASH MANAGEMENT DEFINITION you will get 580,000 hits which will clearly explain exactly what it is. It is a veryt common term in finance.

What is almost always called cash management in the US is almost always called treasury in the UK.

The common French business slang word TRÉSO means the same thing.

It is very common that trésorerie is translated incorrectly with the English cognate treasury. Sometimes treasury is correct but not usually and not here. If you enter the French word trésorerie in the Wordreference.com FR-EN online dictionary, the first translation will be cash. I believe that to be correct.
Example sentence:

Our investment bank offers cash management services to optimize your business's cash flow: lending or borrowing to regulate cash flow surpluses or deficits, certificates of deposit, treasury bills and government bonds and derivatives.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Julie Barber : There is nothing to suggest that it's public or gov, treasury can simply be in the finance department of a company
