French term

réseau d'épandage

French to English Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology sewage treatment
I know this is in the glossary under terrain d'épandage as land for spreading waste, but I'm not sure whether that applies here. This seems to be part of a septic tank/sewage treatment system. Eurodicautom gives épandage either as waste water spillage or broad irrigation, which I'm not sure about either.

Une filière d'épuration complète est constituée d'une fosse toutes eaux suivie d'un système de traitement (filtre à sable, **réseau d'épandage**, ...).

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Discussion

Conor McAuley Feb 6, 2007:
In the context of farming, épandage I believe means spreading fertiliser (synthetic or of animal origin) on fields.

septic drain fields is a synonym for leach field & both terms can be used in reference of disposing of the surplus in septic tanks

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "In view of Bourth's definition and the various ghits for leach field in the context of septic tanks, I think you're absolutely right - many thanks to everyone!"

wastewater infiltration system

It may well be this. There are quite a lot of ghits.
A "bassin d'épandage" is an infiltration basin, so why not?

waste treatment network

The reference here as you have rightly thought is about a purification plant where waste/sewage is treated using sans filter, waste treatment network..

soakaway system

If this is something like a domestic septic tank system, that's what it would usually be called, I believe.

Hi, J-J! That must be the official term, down 'ere on the farm, we just call it a soakaway (clearly a rather informal term!)

definition

Dicobat - which I would recommend to anyone - says:

<<épandage ... 2/ Technique de dispersion des eaux dans le sol naturel, utilisée pour l'évacuation des effluents épurés des fosses septiques. Un épandage souterrain, ou "champ d'épandage", est constitué d'un réseau ramifié en "pattes d'araignée" de canalisations perforées, en ciment, en grès, ou plus généralement en PVC. Ces canalisations sont établies à environ 50cm de profondeur et en leger pente, dans un enrobage de gravillons.
GB. soil sewage dispersion system, absorption bed, irrigated sewage field, disposal field, disposal bed [IOW, others have had trouble finding a translation too!] ... >>
