French term
à double union vissée
French to English

fountain engineering
This term also falls under "ball valves" in the "valves and accessories" section of a fountain engineering tender.
This is the french:
Robinets à tournant sphérique de diamètre égal ou inférieur à 50 mm :
- type « à billes »,
- écoulement possible dans les deux directions
- corps, bille et raccords en CPV,
- à tige inéjectable,
- à poignée avec clé tricoise amovible,
- à double union vissée,
- pression maximale de service : 1035 kPa (150 psi),
- joints toriques en « Viton ».
This is the translation (minus the term):
Ball valves of a diameter equal to or less than 50 mm:
- “ball” type
- outflow possible in both directions,
- PVC body, ball and connections,
- à tige inéjectable, (inejectable rod?)
- top-gripping with removable spanner wrench,
- à double union vissée,
- maximum service pressure: 1035 kPa (150 psi),
- Viton O-rings (O-rings of « Viton »)
Thanks!

double threaded coupling
However I'm not sure if "à double union vissée" means the valve has:
- two threaded unions fitted (on in the inlet side, one on the outlet side) for connection to pipes (the two unions might be threaded at each end or only on the valve end, being designed for flanged or welded connection at the other)
- union or unions threaded at each end for screw fitting to both the valve and the pipework.

- union or unions threaded at each end for screw fitting to both the valve and the pipework.

screwed-end double-union
Quite a few results on Google for double-union ball valves and screwed end ball valves, so I'm assuming if you put them together you get screwed-end double-union ball valves. Or there again, maybe it should be double-union screwed-end ball valves...
Yikes! Aren't you near the end of this thing yet?!!

On refleciton, maybe "double-union with screwed end" would be better.

Note from asker:
Hey! I am going to pick Bourth's answer because I am going to use it as my principal translation, but i am going to add your term as an option, so thanks very much!! Yeah, nearing the end finally... about 3 more sections... it was about 100 pages in total, a huge challenging project as I have very little experience!! A welcome one though. Thanks again for your help! |
Discussion
I'm not sure about that use of 'wrench', I presume it's a removable handle, not exactly what I'd call a tool... and hence not sure about 'gripping' either
Because of the potential confusion with ball cocks, I personally tend to use the term 'spherical valve' for these ones...
