French term

parti paysager

French to English Other Architecture landscaping
Hello,

Can anyone explain to me the meaning of "parti paysager" in the following context? (and/or provide me with a translation):
"Le parti paysager donne un site qui semble sans limite territoriale."

Thanks!

landscape option

This is what I would translate it with. It means that by choosing to work on the landscape one is capable of opening up or even removing territorial boundaries. You might also be able to play with the word "perspective".

If the intention of the writer had been to talk about layout or overall design, I think they would have used "parti paysagiste" or "landscape scheme" (which I have often seen) rather than paysager. I can see where you feel there is some ambiguity, but having worked on a few recent articles in which this kind of sentence was frequent, I still feel that my initial translation suits it. A bit more context might help, if you're still unsure and want a second opinion.
Note from asker:
Your explanation seems sound. However, the GDT has a definition for "parti" that seems specific to the building/architecture sector which has made me wonder if they might have a more technical intention. It's translated by "preliminary design" or "outline plan" and a definition is provided as well: "Preliminary drawing showing the broad concept of an architectural or town planning scheme." What do you think?

landscaping choices, just "landscaping"

"parti" is the choices made, the options taken, the road followed, and "paysager" refers to landscaping.

That much I can translate. It's when architects get into things like "un site qui semble sans limite territoriale" that my minds goes into a state of collapse.

landscape design

"Parti paysager (définition des différents types de paysages, formulation des problématiques, inventaire de programmes paysagers, prise de position spatiale) ". Paysagiste is the same thing.
