Help to determine, please.
It is a marine diesel generator for a boat. Context:
Problem:
Generator engine cranks, but does not start, fuel solenoid energized.
Probable Cause:
1. Faulty fueling system.
Verification/Remedy:
1. Check that fuel valves are open.
1a. Switch to combine house and start batteries.
1b. Replace batteries.
1c. Check fuel lift pump.
1d. Change inlet fuel filter.
Does it mean "basic/main battery" or is it a battery for life support?
So that I shoudl switch over to combine mode of both house battery and start battery. To increase efficiency from both batteries and start up the engine?

The diagram makes it clear that this is not an emergency battery, but the battery for everything but starting the engine (unless you have a problem and need to hook it up to the engine for an extra jolt).

: Yes, exactly! Sorry, I didn't read your complete answer before adding my own, which is materially similar; I would, however, avoid the term 'main', since the engine starting battery is usually regarded as the 'main', and this one as the 'auxiliary'

I'm not a boater. Reading in context, I think the house battery is the main battery, as you suggest. Since a starter requires a burst of energy, the backup system sounds very useful. Please note I'm guessing, but I don't want your question to go unanswered.

It is referreing to the auxiliary battery, provided for all pwoer requirements other than actual engine starting.
In other words, if the main engine battery is flat and won't start the engine, you can try connecting the auxiliary battery in parallel with it to give extra power capacity.

Here is a clearer diagram and some explanations
In small installations using a Trollbridge you can reduce the installation to just two batteries and still have 24 volts for the TM, saving the weight and cost of one battery. There is the starting/house battery plus the second of the 24 volt stack. The Trollbridge charges them both in parallel and any alternator should have capacity to handle this load.

la batterie est probablement faiblarde, on la combine en parallèle pour garder le même voltage en donnant plus de puissance

: "starting/house" doesn't mean they are synonyms, rather that these two different functions are integrated - otherwise it would probably be "starting (house)" or some such
