"Ps-Contour plots are contour plots of three-dimensional surfaces described by z= f(x,y). The contours produced are projections of level surfaces z = constant on the x-y plane."
...I know what a contour plot is, but what about "Ps"? what does it stand for?
thanks!

It is simply the name of a popular, but very slow plotting routine. People who know what it is will recognize it by that name. People who do not recognize it by that name will not know what it is and are unlikely to use it.

Pseudospectral
Pseudospectral calculations approximate spherical coordinates, so without more context about what they're plotting, they're probably talking about using PS methods to model convective flows over a shperical object. PS methods are more accurate than finite difference for spheres. Hope this helps.
