Detta måste ju vara ngt i stil med att domstolen säger att "enligt den information de fått och så vitt de vet" så är denna person bosatt i Frankrike. Jag kan bara inte komma på hur man ska skriva det snyggt....

11. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (henceforth “YYY”) is, upon information and belief, a resident of France who regularly transacts business in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Detta måste ju vara ngt i stil med att domstolen säger att "enligt den information de fått och så vitt de vet" så är denna person bosatt i Frankrike. Jag kan bara inte komma på hur man ska skriva det snyggt....

First, no a court does not use this terminology (upon information and belief); it is only a plaintiff (or defendant) who uses it. It is a formality, a phrase that has a specific legal meaning, but on the other hand really doesn't mean much.
It means simply that this is what I know and believe to be correct, and I don't actually promise that it is correct.
In other words, if it is wrong later, don't blame me, it is simply what I thought and believed at the time.
Another issue would be if it is "verified."
That would mean that the information stated is given under penalty of perjury . Though the person would have to have known at the time that it is false. However there can be other sanctions that may be imposed if the information turns out to be proven false, even if the legal definition of perjury has not been met.
