The XXXX family purchased two rectifying columns in 1831 and 1836: these columns strip the botanical flavours.
They connected a lyne arm to a separately held copper basket filled with botanicals.
One column rectified the grain spirit, leaving only the purest vapour to reach the botanicals in the basket – which also meant they weren’t exposed to the excessive heat that degrades traditional gin.
