Several techniques are used onboard for securing plant and equipment. The kind of isolation used and the precautions taken will depend on the level of risk that the job is likely to involve.
The typical methods of isolation used may involve:
• Physical disconnecting and blanking.
• Spades or blind flange.
• Closed and locked valves etc.
The highest isolation standard reasonably practicable shall be selected, taking into account the fact that sometimes there may be risks in achieving a higher standard that outweighs the risk involved in using a lower one.
