This system has proved to be very successful. The lamp recycling techniques create secondary material streams, such as glass, ferrous and non-ferrous materials and mercury containing fluorescent powder that can be reused in various ways. The ELC is willing to share its knowledge on recycling with all parties seriously interested in reprocessing spent lamps.
The ELC actively pursues conformity with EU legislation and is currently working on a strategy to implement the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive in EU member states in the period to July 2005. This issue falls within the responsibility of the Dir WEEE working group.
