A therapist who works with partners and children as well as survivors must be flexible, creative, understand child development, be able to treat children with respect in an adult -like manner (where appropriate), and have a system-wide focus. That therapist can help family members recognize personal limits-when enough is enough¬and can encourage family members to seek outside supports and inter¬ests when indicated.
