On the longest day he ever lived, Heidegger could never be called a philosopher of science.
Simple as it may seem, but I am unsure of its exact meaning. Could anyone shed some light on me? Thank you!

我没有查到 'on the longest day' 有特殊用法,应该就是字面的意思,建议意译。“海德格尔终其一生,无法以科学哲学家自居。”

But part of my problem with the phrase in the OP is that it seems to focus upon the duration of Heidegger's day, not the quality of his work.
I think "Even on his best day, Heidegger could never be called a philosopher of science." is quite idiomatic. (This says that even his best work wasn't good enough.)
Moreover, in one book "in the longest day he ever lived..." was used instead of "on the longest day he ever lived..." Thus, your sentence may be a translation.
