Discussion

lbone (asker) Sep 13, 2007:
Thank you and this question is held After research on relevant pages. I found there may be multiple choices for the word comp on this topic. I mean in differs sites of the similar nature. comp is actually linked to different meanings, by text description, or by video demonstration - comprehensive, complimentary, complementary, or something similar to a sample.

To get the correct choice, I should know the meaning of it (what it is short for?) from the final client. But at this time, the PM does not have enough time to ask it for me.

So I decided to hold this KudoZ question first.

Thank you anyway.
Shirley Lao Sep 8, 2007:
I believe the word "non-watermarked" makes a difference here, because free samples offered for trial purposes should be watermarked (with the company logo) instead of being "non-watermarked".

这篇文章几天前主提交了 不过我希望最好在做词汇表时,有个能让自己满意的理解。

关于免费 第一个例子中:
We provide non-watermarked, low-res comps (320x180) for $xxx which are available online.
这说明原文改动了“免费”的意义,还是comp不必是免费的?
我对这里收费确实感到比较不解。从背景文章看,这里comp的价格是标准高清版价格的1/3左右。
lbone (asker) Sep 4, 2007:
thank you I guess it may be some kind of sample (I can be wrong). Any way, if you have any suggestion, rather than a question, I suggest that you write it as an answer, so peers can comment on it, and I can send points for it if i think it is most helpful.
Shirley Lao Sep 4, 2007:
Try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_layout.
In these three examples, "comp" sometimes means "complimentary" for promotional purposes, but "comp" mostly means "comprehensive".

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank, Shirley, Jinhang and karcsy. All your suggestions are reasonable to some extent. I think the basic meaning for this comp is complimentary in my context, but the author made a trick on it."

优惠的影像

对不起,上个译文马虎了,,没有注意到还有价格。现在看来,comp的免费意思被改动了。改得变成非全价、非免费的了,而是打了折扣的,建议翻译成“优惠的影像”。
